Cervical cancer is a cancer that starts in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens at the top of the vagina. unlike other cancer cervical cancer id not hereditary. it is caused by certain types of a common virus called Human Papillomavirus, or HPV. Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in woman worldwide after breast cancer.
Facts about HPV and cervical cancer
* It is estimated that 8 out of 10 woman will get HPV in their lifetime. For most, the body's own defence system will clear the virus. when it doesn't other diseases develop.
*HPV can be easily passed on through any kind of intimate genital contact. Intercourse not necessary.
Risk factors for cervical cancer:
- Having sex at an early age
- Multiple sexual partners
- Not having regular pap smear
- Sexual partners who have multiple partner
- Weakened immune system
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding between periods, after sexual intercourse, or after menopause
- Continuous vaginal discharge
- Period becomes heavier and last longer
- loss of appetite
- Pelvic pain
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
TREATMENT
Early cervical cancer can be cured by removing of destroying the precancerous or cancerous tissue.
Types of surgery for early cervical cancer include :
* Loop electro-surgical excision procedure (LEEP)
* Cryotherapy
*Laser Therapy
